It is made of labradorite, which I love for the unique gradations in color and visual quality, kind-of like rutilated quartz, and it reminds me of an Alexander Calder mobile--like this one:

Intel Visual Life - The Sartorialist

I think it should be pretty obvious that I love the Sartorialist. I use his photos every now and again on this blog (always link back to the original source!) and check up on his site religiously. I love looking at street-style photography, like Face Hunter and Jak and Jil, but Scott Schumann, the Sartorialist, is my favorite. Schumann is great at what he does not only because he captures unique outfits, but because somehow he manages to capture a little more than just the outfit in the photo- he creates a story. Sometimes I catch myself thinking, "Oh, she looks like she is on her way to (fill in the blank) to (fill in the blank). She looks so chic!"...and the fact that he captures photos from around the world doesn't hurt the cool-factor, either.

The Sartorialist was recently the subject of a short film sponsored by Intel that I watched on his website and liked so much, I thought I'd share it here.

New Years Eve: Snippet of a Snapshot!

Sooooo, I downloaded my NYE pics from my camera onto the netbook and subsequently deleted the pics from the camera. And then the netbook died. So I figured my opportunity for an outfit post had been dashed until my technology crisis was over.... until I discovered that my sister had pics of NYE on her camera! Yea for overzealous photographers in the family!

Anyway, it was a fun night that started with a quiet dinner at home with the Bf, after which we met up with my sister and her entourage (not really, it only seems that way) at Prime Bar, a venue with three bars (no crowds to battle for drinks!), which featured a live band and lots of balloons everywhere.

I only have one picture of the outfit and, yes, I decided to crop the BF out of the frame because A- he doesn't like his picture plastered everywhere and B- if he wants everyone to see his cute style he should get his own blog, right!?! ;)

Well, you can't see the shoes, but c'est la vie. Some things worked well with this outfit, like the tights and some things did not work so well, like my shoes (I was doing some awkward teetering/limping when we left, but let everyone think it was the booze!). Also, I just want to note that if you have never tried Spanx tights, they are awesome. I am not talking about flab-alanche control in this case, but in opaqueness. These tights aren't cheap, but they are super dark and super comfy! (I don't work for Spanx, just sayin')...

...I will add more pictures in once the Bermuda Triangle of technology is exorcised from this house and things start working normally again ;)

Spring Greens

I don't know why, but I was really drawn to the green colors in Diane von Furstenberg's collection for Spring 2001 RTW. Normally I am a blue/purple fan, but for some reason, the greens really caught my attention. Maybe because green reminds me of spring?


I love chartreuse with black and gray, too.

I Find The Strangest Stuff On Etsy!

Oh, Etsy, you never cease to amaze and confuse me!

This seller makes the most curious art pieces. There is a really creepy robot baby piece, too, but you can look that up at your own risk!


Yup, that's a Barbie party on that shirt. Gotta get me one of those...for every day of the week! ;)

Happy Shapes!

I dig me a triangle. And a circle... And lots of other shapes. Maybe my fried little brain (atrophied from doing nothing intellectually stimulating over Christmas) is reverting back to childhood because I have been loving simple shapes and patterns lately...not unlike a toddler. Hmmm.

Triangles:

Something about this necklace is really adorable to me...the rough, handmade aesthetic, the simple shape and the leather combined are cute and funky without being too crazy...

Stripes:

Who on earth doesn't love stripes? I have been wearing them a lot in basic white/navy and black/gray combinations, but bright colors would be a lot of fun. And having a pony wouldn't hurt, either... ;)

Circles:

I am in love with this Karma necklace by Dogeared. A dear friend who moved away got this for me and I have been wearing it constantly. I love the message as much as the clean and simple design!

The Summit!

It is probably residual New Year's excitement, but I was very pleased with myself for agreeing to hike Camelback Mountain with my friends yesterday. I haven't been very active lately (does eating Christmas cookies count as exercise?) so I was winded probably 200 ft into the climb, (hehe), but eventually made it to the top, runny nose and all! This picture is not from the top because it was already starting to get dark when we reached the peak and my camera's phone is kinda lame... Anyway, I love trying new things and although I am sore and my stride is reminiscent of Frankenstein today it was worth it!!!

Here is one check off my New Year's Resolutions list, only a couple hundred more to go ;)
