The CDFA's: You Can Watch It If You Missed It!

I am a little behind when it comes to the latest fashion updates, but it is partly due to the new job and partly because I have been spending a lot of time in the garage on a new DIY undertaking. I hope to complete that project in the next week or so and will share it as soon as I am done!

In the meanwhile, I am catching up on the fashion scene and was pleasantly surprised that the CDFA fashion awards program is available for viewing on style.com! I looked at Tommy Ton's photos of the designers and other notables arriving at the awards, check out two of the snaps:

Ashley Olsen in The Row (natch)). I love the color.

Karen Elson and Tabitha Simmons, both in Proenza Schouler, with Arizona Muse, in Diane von Furstenberg. Is it just me or is Arizona Muse so cool? I don't want to like her because everyone else does, but I can't help it! ;)

There are more pictures here, too! Have you already watched the awards and/or checked out the pictures? Are you ecstatic or outraged that the Olsens are rocking at life even more these days? ;)

A Short Story (continued)

My previous post extolled the virtues of shorts for day (can we call them mini-pants? It makes me smile) but daytime wear seems so safe and expected. Have any of you worn shorts for night with a bare leg and heels? I didn't last summer, and for now I will wear tights under my shorts, but I definitely want to try it when the weather allows. I still love a good sequin short (see below) but there are other nighttime appropriate fabrics to be considered, too:

These Dvf shorts are super cute (I love scalloped hems) and the DvF girl would probably rock these for day, too, no holds barred!

The jacquard fabric of these Thread Social shorts is very regal and there is a bit of an 80's, Dynasty feel to them:

Forever 21 can churn out a trend for pennies on the dollar and I love that these shorts have pockets!

Marc Jacobs' high waisted shorts seem like they would be very fancy, but you could wear them with anything and everything- flats/heels/booties/sequins/wool/spring/summer/fall- you get the idea...

These Valentino lace shorts...sigh... You could wear these to a formal movie premiere and no one would question you. Very lady-who-lunches meets Black Swan with a little... (I'll stop there)...

Are you grabbing your purse to run out the door and snatch up a pair of shorts for your next soiree? Or do you still need a little convincing...?

Spring Greens

I don't know why, but I was really drawn to the green colors in Diane von Furstenberg's collection for Spring 2001 RTW. Normally I am a blue/purple fan, but for some reason, the greens really caught my attention. Maybe because green reminds me of spring?

I love chartreuse with black and gray, too.

I have never worn this neon color, not sure if it is one of "my" colors ;) Love the belt!

Great belt again and that minty fresh green of her skirt is great!

Are you looking forward to spring? Or still reveling in cozy knits and neutrals?

Wear Thongs in Public!

...on your feet! (I crack myself up!) I live in a HOT climate, as I have mentioned in an earlier post, and dressing sparingly while maintaining a fashionable appearance is an art. I have taken to wearing flip flops when I am not a work, but I don't want to ruin a great outfit with grungy sandals, (chunky foam=eww). In addition, I am a tall gal, so I like flat sandals for day, but want to capture the more elegant vibe of a heeled sandal. Lots of criteria!, but being picky paid off and I found some fun options to share:

J.Crew leather Capri sandal, $39.50

The go-to sandal. Super thin and basic, this style is not a scene-stealer, but it goes as well with linen shorts as with a floral dress. (And they are on sale right now- yea!)

Vera Wang Lavender Label Nita Sandal, $195 ($136.50 at shopbop)

This is the next generation of the gladiator sandal. Instead of being weighty and chunky, this lil' number balances a sturdy heel with finely sculpted front straps, giving it substance derived from architecture rather than sheer mass. This pair would be great for an adult day-to-night option.

Diane von Furstenberg Jaya sandal, $79

Jelly sandals! These appeal to the grown-up in me, ("greige" color I love in a totally wearable design), as well as the kid in me, (I repeat- jelly sandals!) Also, Zappos has more color options, but they are on sale online at Nordstrom.

Any favorite summer sandals you've spotted? A shoe trend you are dying to try?
