A Bright Idea

I don't know if I have necessarily been looking for them, but certain colors have been jumping out at me lately. I am still a fan of that beigey-blush, of minimalist monochromatic looks, and of creamy pale colors for spring, but there is something about fun, bold colors that is making me smile.... Check out my influences from the color-wheel:

Alexa Chung's bright bag really pops against the all-black ensemble...

Keiko Lynn's awesome purple shadow....

Jonathan Saunder's Fall 2011 collection. Check it out here, it's all pretty cool...

Awesome bright, bright berry jacket and pants from The Sartorialist....

Are you into spring colors or still in winter-mode? What has been catching your eye this week?

On the Chopping Block!

What's on the chopping block? That'd be my hair... (I wish there was a determined/nervous/excited emoticon to insert here)... and that is what my day will bring me at noon. Like a guillotine sentencing that I will carry out against my hair, it's time to get rid of it in one fell swoop! I recently colored my hair brown (I posted on the change here), so in a 6 month span I will go from long (Pocahontas would had approve), beach-blonde hair to short (well, medium bob length), brown hair.

Why? It's just time to change things up a bit. (And also because I feel like the trim I get every 2 months or so doesn't get rid of my split ends...they mock me in the mirror! I swear!)

Delusion aside, I looked on the web for inspiration, but since the trend these days is for lengthy locks, I didn't find much. But it's quality over quantity, right? Here are some of my fav hairdo's and style ideas:

Alexa Chung went from from a longer bob to a shorter, chunky cut but still kept her ombre coloring. I like that the ends are blunt, but that there is still a lot of texture:

At first, I didn't like this cut on Kathering McPhee. But then I realized I just didn't like the color on her (she looks better brunette), but I do like the simple style and how the her bangs add soft texture around her face.

Jessica Stroup has a great cut because she can wear it straight or wavy and tousled. I won't be going this short (barring an accident- eeps!) but I like the versatility of her cut.

(Click on any of the pictures to link back to its respective web source- where you can find more pics!)

How often do you chop those locks? And have you ever had a crazy hairstyle? Also, and fantastically amazing hair products out there (if you are willing to share your secrets!)?

Thrifting with Alexa Chung...

I don't know much about Alexa Chung. She caught my eye a while back in some magazine because I very much identify with the gangly, flat-chested types and love to examine what they are wearing to see if it is a style I can adopt for my own wardrobe. Her style is adorable; a sort of an 80's-romantic-Oliver Twist amalgamation of brogues and shorts and layers. Not really my style scene, but she got a bookmark in my brain and life carried on.

The image that introduced me to Chung. She was DJing at an event in a Burberry sequin dress + chunky sweater topper-- thus began my love of sparkly things (this even made it onto my inspiration wall!)

Now she has popped back up on my radar for more than a snippet/photo-op in Vogue. I read an article on NYTimes.com that described how she and a style.com higher up will be hosting the show "Thrift America" on PBS. Shopping for vintage treasures with a gal who is kind-of cool despite no one knowing what she actually does actually sounds pretty appealing, so I will be sure to tune in (and way to go PBS for branching out beyond Charlie Rose- that man scares me).

The show doesn't debut until this summer, so in the meanwhile I will plan to do a little vintage shopping of my own (advice anyone?) and google-image-stalk Alexa to see what this gal is all about. Results of my stalking? So glad you asked:

Normally I credit my photos, but my sources didn't list sources, so here's to theft!

Are you a fan? Or just as mystified as much of America as to what her sitch (situation) is?
